CETACEAN ECOLOGY
The contribution to a cetacean identification acoustic method validation
Cetacean population are globally not much known, including on the Mediterranean sea, and many species are threatened.
In order to realize a significant advance around the counting and the population following-up, an innovative method had been put in place by one of the laboratory partners (LSIS). This no-intrusive and respectful acoustic method needs to be validated from field data which will be collected all along the expedition.
Knowledge improvements on cetacean ecology
Cetacean protection can be realized once we get perfect knowledge about their habitat, that means about the environmental conditions they need to live and develop.
The specie and individual follow-up which will be lead with the acoustic method (see above) will provide individual positions on all Halifax sailing. All the positions will be crossed with environmental parameters in order to specify the 7 specie habitat living on the Mediterranean sea.
